Submission Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in publishing with Boiler House Press. We welcome both veteran and debut authors to submit. Please carefully read through all of the following guidelines before submitting your manuscript to us. Failure to read and follow the guidelines does show and if they are not followed we will not read your manuscript.
1. As we are a small press, we require you to purchase a recent BHP Title prior to submission, and to provide evidence of purchase during the submission process. We feel this will both support our current authors as well as help you to develop an understanding of the type of writing we publish. Click this link to purchase a title now.
2. We are passionate about new writing that breaks a mould; that surprises; that plays with-and-between the creative and the critical. (See our About page to learn more.) We are open to publishing fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and everything in-between. All manuscripts, regardless of genre, must be publication-ready at the time of submission. By this we mean:
PROSE (FICTION & NON-FICTION): Full manuscript completed
SHORT STORIES & FLASH FICTION: Full collection completed
POETRY: 60-75 A5 pages of poetry
3. Please understand we can only consider one manuscript per author at a time.
4. Individual Submission Guidelines:
PROSE (Fiction & Non-Fiction) SAMPLE
- First Chapter, or the equivalent of about 5,000 words
- Double spaced, size 12 standard font
- No author name on the document as we sometimes send anonymised manuscripts to internal readers
- Cover page with manuscript title
- Please combine into a single Word Document. If you would like to submit a PDF file to preserve formatting, please
submit both a Word and a PDF document
SHORT STORIES & FLASH FICTION SAMPLE
- 1-2 short stories, or 2-3 flash fiction pieces (the equivalent of about 5,000 words)
- Double spaced, size-12 standard font
- No author name on the document as we sometimes send anonymised manuscripts to internal readers
- Cover page with table of contents
- Please combine into a single Word Document. If you would like to submit a PDF file to preserve formatting, please
submit both a Word and a PDF document
POETRY SAMPLE
- 12-15 A5 pages of poetry
- Single-spaced, size-12 standard font
- No author name on the document as we sometimes send anonymised manuscripts to internal readers
- Cover page with table of contents for the sample; if you have a working title for your collection, please feel free to provide it

5. Simultaneous submissions to other publishers are welcome so long as you immediately withdraw your work from consideration elsewhere if it is accepted by BHP. If your work is accepted elsewhere, please notify us and withdraw your submission at the earliest instance.
6. Though we are based in Norwich, U.K., we happily accept submissions from authors who are living and working outside the U.K. Like we said above, we welcome both veteran and debut authors to submit.

Please be aware that we are a very small team and we experience a very high volume of submissions, some weeks in excess of our volume of sales, so please allow at least a month for any sort of response beyond which, if you haven't heard from us, please assume it's not right for us at this stage, for whatever reason - which could well be simply to do with capacity - and please feel free to explore other options for your work. We cannot enter into correspondence about any submission. We wish we could but there just isn't enough time.
